Statement from City of Vancouver Planning Department.
A new city-wide planning process provides a tremendous opportunity to build on our planning achievements and engage all Vancouverites in imagining the physical evolution of our city. Poised at the convergence of challenges and opportunities, it is expected that the plan will further the City’s sustainability and affordability goals while providing a clear, flexible, holistic three-dimensional vision of how we will manage growth in a livable, healthy and successful way.
As we think about our future, we are increasingly aware of the importance of employing an integrated approach. We are learning that a successful plan must carefully consider a variety of inter-related, connected systems across a variety of scales. It is also equally important to ensure that all voices are heard and that the values and goals of our present and future citizens are reflected in the plan.
As we conceptualize a way forward, we will invite ideas and thoughts from everyone. Only together will we be able to address the convergence of global, regional and city-wide challenges that collectively influence our environment, economy, livability and long-term sustainability.
We would like to thank and congratulate the Vancouver City Planning Commission for their initiative and vision in seeking out these early thoughtful perspectives on the idea of a city-wide planning process, and we look forward to listening and learning from all Vancouverites as we move ahead.
